Wanting to take your truck to the next level?

A body drop lowers your body over your chassis and allows the body to sit at ground level when the truck is deflated. The main objective of a body drop is to have the body of your truck lay flat on the ground when your truck is layed out.

Otherwise, if you bag a truck without a body drop, the lowest part of the body is often still several inches from the ground due to its mounting position on the chassis. And for some, this just isnt low enough.

Body drops can vary in size from a mild 2" drop through to laying doors, which can be 5" or more.If you want to take your truck to the lowest level possible then a body drop is a must. When it comes to minitruck body drops you have several different options:

HOW DOES A BODY DROP WORK?

A bodydrop is achieved by raising the frame up inside the body by raising the floor boards. In some cases you don't have to raise the floor board. Used to be called chanelling and still is in some cases. Not for the weak of heart, their is a lot of cutting on your truck and refitting.

Air suspension

Is a type of vehicle suspension powered by an engine driven or electric air pump or compressor. This pump pressurizes the air, using compressed air as a spring. Air suspension replaces conventional steel springs. ...

Over the last decade or so air suspension has become extremely popular in the custom automobile culture: street rods, trucks, cars, and even motorcycles may have air springs. They are used in these applications to provide an adjustable suspension which allows vehicles to sit extremely low, yet be able rise to a level high enough to maneuver over obstacles and inconsistencies in the roadways (and parking lots).

These systems generally employ small, electric or engine-driven air compressors which sometimes fill an on-board air receiver tank which stores compressed air for use in the future without delay. High-pressured industrial gas bottles (such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide tanks used to store shielding gases for welding) are sometimes used in more radical air suspension setups. Either of these reservoir systems may be fully adjustable, being able to adjust each wheel's air pressure individually. This allows the user to tilt the vehicle side to side, front to back, in some instances "hit a 3-wheel" (contort the vehicle so one wheel lifts up from the ground) or even "hop" the entire vehicle into the air. When a pressure reservoir is present, the flow of air or gas is commonly controlled with pneumatic solenoid valves. This allows the user to make adjustments by simply pressing a momentary-contact electric button or switch
.

BODYDROP

Often, owners may desire to lower their vehicle to such an extent that they must cut away portions of the frame for more clearance. A reinforcement member commonly referred to as a C-notch is then bolted or welded to the vehicle frame in order to maintain structural integrity. Specifically on pickup trucks, this process is termed "notching" because a portion (notch) of the cargo bed may also be removed, along with the wheel wells, to provide maximum axle clearance. For some, it is desirable to have the vehicle so low that the frame rests on the ground when the air bags are fully deflated.

IF YOUR GOING TO BAG YOUR TRUCK, MAKE SHURE YOU DO IT RIGHT THE FIRT TIME, DONT TRY TO HALFASS ANYTHING OR YOU WONT BE HAPPY WITH THE END RESULT!!

Stock Floor Body Drop  - New-Skool Channeling

  • The basic idea of a stock-floor body drop is to lay the rockers on the ground by extensively modifying the stock frame, or building a completely new frame. With a modified frame, the body mounts can be moved down and the top of the frame can be cut away, enabling the rocker to sit flush with the bottom of the frame. This allows the truck's floor to only be modified around trouble spots, such as the tranny tunnel, the driveline, the firewall, and possibly the gas tank. The benefits include retention of interior space, more headroom, stock ride characteristics, stock carpet, and most importantly, a lower ride height.

  • How much does a body drop  cost $$??

As far as how much, to get it done at a shop look for anywheres from $3000-$4000. At some of your higher end shops not including the air suspension (air bags), The whole pakage will run you about 7,000 to 10,000   or you can buy a pre-built Bolt on body drop for just about any make, model car or truck. These frames now are all prebent frame rails instead of the ol notch and welds.  it includes all front power steering, front brakes (includeing pads too), tubular upper & lower control arms, four link,15gal fuel cell, four Dominator2600 or RE7Slam bags, and body mounts (some chassis may not be able to come with body mounts installed).
